Chalets Runolist

A green getaway close to the Adriatic coast

The breathtaking green oasis of Gorski Kotar hides three charming chalets with beautiful views of the forests and nearby hills.

The Chalets Runolist are located on the doorstep of the National Park Risnjak. Each chalet (named Iva, Ana and Eva) is an individual unit for rent, built in a typical mountain style of Gorski Kotar, with low roofs and wood-panelled walls.

The whole property has a large private garden with an outdoor heated swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a Finnish sauna, and a children's playground - ideal for a relaxing family holiday in the quiet and green oasis of Gorski Kotar in Inland Croatia.

The restaurant "Risnjak" (at the entrance of the Risnjak National Park) is only 1.5 km from the Holiday Houses Runolist. It offers local mountain cuisine.

Gorski Kotar is the most heavily forested region of Croatia, which makes it a magnificent retreat in the hot summers. It is not overdeveloped in a tourist sense. Since not widely known, it is never too crowded, which is a great advantage.

The National Park Risnjak, located about 15 km from the Adriatic coast, covers an area of 64 km2. Easily accessible from the highway Zagreb – Rijeka, the park is a popular destination for walking, climbing and mountaineering (the highest peak is Risnjak, 1.528 m).

The Chalets Runolist are a perfect getaway from crowded tourist places and high temperatures on the Adriatic coast. Close to both the Croatian Capital of Zagreb and the Kvarner region on the Adriatic coast.

Top 3 reasons why to stay in Chalets Runolist

  1. An amazing location - in a green oasis of peace, in the middle of highland forests, half-an-hour drive from the Adriatic coast and 1.5 km from the National Park Risnjak. The ideal starting point for many activities and a true paradise for nature lovers.
  2. National Park Risnjak with exciting activities, which you can enjoy in unique natural surroundings: hiking, mountain biking, sports fishing, and special places for game observation to experience the park’s fauna more closely. Some light, recreational activities:
  • Short hiking trip to the karst spring of the Kupa River, the hydrological phenomenon and natural monument. The spring, with the cleanest water and variable turquoise-green colour, is also called the Lake of Kupa. 200 m long, and 30 m wide, it is one of the many mysteries of that karst area, located in the National Park Risnjak. It is also one of the strongest, most comprehensive and deepest Croatian springs.
  • Hiking along the educational path Leska - a circular walk trail, 4.5 km long, beginning and ending at the visitor center in Crni Lug.
    3. The stunning natural attractions Vražji Prolaz (The Devil's Passage) and Zeleni Vir (The Green Vortex). The trails are 30 km or half-an-hour drive away from Crni Lug. Located in the canyon below Skrad, at 302 m - 649 m above sea level. The area was declared a geomorphological reserve in 1962. Green Vortex is a source at the bottom of a shallow cave whose entrance is surrounded by vertical, high cliffs and a waterfall. The Devil's Passage is an 800 meters long canyon, one of the most beautiful Croatian canyons full of wild and romantic beauty. Through a narrow gorge, barely two meters wide, among a hundred meters high rocks, murmurs the mountain creek Jasle. Above the creek, on supports cut into the rock, galleries and bridges have been made for excursionists. An amazing experience.

Recommended day-trips and activities:

Hiking trips through the hilly area, along lakes and long canyons … Some recommendations:

  1. Hiking to the peaks Veliki Risnjak (1.528 m) and Snježnik (1.506 m), the highest peaks in the National Park Risnjak. The Veliki Risnjak can be reached only on foot from Crni Lug (3 h) or an unpaved road beginning in Gornje Jelenje (1h). On its southern slope is the mountain lodge 'Šloserov dom' located, and on the grassy peak of Snježnik, you will find the mountain lodge 'Albaharijev dom'.
  2. Half-day hiking trip to Golubinjak Forest Park in Lokve - a less demanding walking tour into the amazing scenery of white rocks surrounded by forest with several attractions. The best known is the „forest queen“ – the highest fir tree in Gorski Kotar. Here are also two attractive caves: Ledena spilja and Golublja spilja, and a whole series of original sculptures of the Lokve art colony, scattered all over the park. The restaurant situated in Forest Park offers tasty local cuisine. There is a picnic and barbecue area arranged, as well as a large playground, only 15 km from Crni Lug.
  3. Short hiking trip to the spring of the River Kupa - one of the strongest, most comprehensive, and deepest Croatian springs, located in the National Park Risnjak, about 20 km from Crni Lug. The source can be reached by a half-an-hour walk from the village of Razloge, 13 km from Holiday Houses Runolist.

Mountain biking /cycling - marked cycle tracks allows you to experience the entire area of Gorski Kotar in several stages – planning your cycling holiday day by day. There are 7 stages ranging from 28-43 km with a total distance of 260 km, from  the shortest routes of 4.2 km up to the longest of 40 km.  Some cycling tracks in the surrounding of Crni Lug:

  1. Lokve – Gorski Raj – Križ potok – Mini farma Lazac – Lokve (10 km);
  2. Lokve – Lazac – Crni Lug – NP Risnjak – Zelin Mrzlovodički – Gorski Raj – Lokve (25 km);
  3. Lokve – Gorski Raj – Mrzla Vodica – Gornje Jelenje – Fužine – Vrata – Lokve (35 km).

Sport fishing in the surrounding rivers and lakes - along the rivers Kupa, Čabranka and Dobra; in the lakes Bajer and Lepenica in Fužine; lake Lokvarka in Lokve. For this type of fishing, you need a daily permit.

Rafting or canyoning on the Kupa River - whitewater rafting or calm water family rafting. The best rafting route is from the village of  Hrvatsko to Brod na Kupi (24 km from Crni Lug). The river category does not exceed a slight category III (the highest is VI), and that is in spring and autumn. Most of the routes are in category II. Duration of the trip: 2-4 hours (depending on the water level).

Adrenaline park in Kupjak (about 20 km from Crni Lug): zip line (where speeds reach above 50 km/h), paintball, suspension bridges, archery, football, zorbing, and activities for children.
