In the foothills of UNESCO Global Geopark Papuk (Nature Park in Western Slavonia, in the eastern part of Croatia), there is a small village Trenkovo. It will amaze you with its extraordinary beauty and serenity of a small Slavonian village. And there is situated the authentic Slavonian country estate „Larva“ with its rural holiday farmhouse built in 1933.

The country estate is remained authentic just as it was in times past. The concept of the farm holidays offers an experience of a real farm life in the original farmhouse with authentic furniture and original cuisine with minimum technology (the refrigerator and a cooker).

Traditional cooking  /  Meals:

  • Local home-made products traditional in the Požega Valley and Slavonia region: pastries from pork greaves - favourite savoury pastries; traditional, hot smoked sausage called “kulen” – authentic Slavonian product protected in EU; cheese; smoked ham; wedding cakes; Graševina – wine from Kutjevo region, šljivovica (plam schnapps).
  • Fresh and tasty breakfast on request with home-made products: sausage, bacon, pork greaves, krvavica (some kind of black pudding), milk, coffe, fresh eggs.
  • Meals can be prepared in different ways: on the grill, in a bread oven or old pot/kettle, on a skewer in traditional way with various seasonal vegetables, incl. homemade wine and brandy (schnapps). There is also a wine cellar.

Some of traditional meals in Slavonia: Fiš-paprikaš – hot fish goulash soup ; grilled carp; Čobanac – "shepard's stew" with several kinds of meat (especially venison).

Payment on the spot is only possible in cash.

Požega Valley also known as Golden Valley

This fertile valley has been important since the antiquity. Its Roman name was Vallis Aurea, meaning "golden valley". The valley is formed by the Slavonian mountains of Požeška Gora, Psunj, Papuk, Krndija and Dilj. Thanks to its protected position no other county in Slavonia has more sights preserved than Požega Valley. Archeological sites, old towns, churches, fortresses, etc. all that can be found in or around the Golden Valley.

Nature Park Papuk is absolutly the crown jewel of all natural beauties in the county. Because of an exceptional geological heritage of its mountains Papuk and Krndija the Papuk Geopark is being one of 120 official UNESCO Global Geoparks around the world.

Recommended one-day trips:

  • Visiting the castle of Baron Trenk (Trenkov dvorac), only 500 m away from the property.
  • Fishing on the river Orljava, on fish farms or eco-ethno estates with their own fish ponds.
  • Wine roads with numerous wine cellars in the Pozega Valley (also called “Golden Valley”), especially the internationally award-winning wines of the wine region Kutjevo.
  • Trip to Nature Park Papuk (UNESCO Global Geopark ) and its Mountain Lodge „Jankovac“, 30 minutes drive through the wood.
  • Trip to the old baroque city of Pozega, just 8 km away. Požega itself is a monument of the baroque architecture built in the Middle Ages.
