Holiday House Olga

Perfect chalet for a family or couple

Lovely chalet in the green hills of Gorski Kotar, on the doorstep of the Risnjak National Park.

The Holiday House Olga is a perfect chalet in nature for a family with kids or couples. A unique retreat situated in the green heart of Croatia (only 30 km from the Adriatic coast) in a beautiful and quiet location looking out over the mountains.

The house has 2 bedrooms, a capacity for 5 persons, furnished with exquisite taste in a typical mountain style with wood panelling, and paintings with mountain motives. It provides all modern conveniences, including SAT TV and Wi-Fi Internet access. A fireplace in the living room makes the winter evenings very cosy, and the under-roof terrace overlooking the garden is perfect for barbecue evenings in the summer.

The weather in Gorski Kotar and the Risnjak National Park is always cooler, which is refreshing. This makes the Holiday House Olga a great escape from the searing heat on the coast.

The restaurant "Risnjak" (at the entrance of the national park) is only 500 m away from the house, and it offers regional mountain cuisine of Gorski Kotar with local products.

National Park Risnjak with its highest peaks Veliki Risnjak (1.528 m) and Snježnik (1.506 m) is the most heavily forested region of Croatia, about 15 km from the Adriatic Sea. It covers an area of 64 km2. Inside the park, we recommend visiting the source of the river Kupa – the hydro geomorphological natural monument.

The Holiday House Olga offers an outstanding location for outdoor enthusiasts and those who just want to relax in a peaceful setting with beautiful green surroundings.

4 reasons why to stay in Holiday House Olga

  1. The exceptional location of the house, an oasis of peace, in the middle of highland forests, 30 km from the sea and 300 meters from the National Park Risnjak. Ideal for nature lovers, hikers and bikers wishing to enjoy the comfort of a chalet with a view of the mountains.
  2. The Risnjak National Park with a rich abundance of flora and fauna. There are several interesting sporting and recreational activities: hiking, mountain biking, sports fishing, and special places for game observation to experience the park’s fauna more closely. A must-see place is the karst spring of the river Kupa. We recommend also the educational path Leska, a circular walk trail, 4.5 km long, beginning and ending at the visitor centre in Crni Lug.
  3. Opportunity to enjoy the regional mountain cuisine of Gorski Kotar in several great restaurants around. Some of the specialities you should try: widely known hunting soup or venison goulash, hot or cold game dishes, polenta with cracklings and sour cream, various meat and fish dishes, a large selection of cheeses, such as famous “škripavac”, wild forest mushrooms with eggs or roasted polenta with broccoli and cheese, desserts made from wild fruit, … We recommend restaurants in Delnice (12 km from Crni Lug), Lokve (by the lake Lokvarsko, 20 km), Fužine (23 km away).
  4. The local eventFruits of the Mountains”, the most original and greenest event of Gorski Kotar. It offers a unique range of tourist events and experiences from April to November in various locations in Gorski Kotar connecting traditional agricultural, natural and cultural heritage. There are organized Days of elderberries, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, herbs, lavender, plums, apples, mushrooms, and pumpkins. The programs offer an excursion in nature focusing on a specific cuisine and local products, exploring indigenous producers - family farms, the habitats of medicinal herbs and forest products. An ideal combination of recreation and educational tourism.

Recommended day-trips and activities:

  • Hiking to the peaks Veliki Risnjak (1.528 m) and Snježnik (1.506 m), the highest peaks in the National Park Risnjak. The Veliki Risnjak can be reached only on foot from Crni Lug (3 h) or an unpaved road beginning in Gornje Jelenje (1h). On its southern slope is the mountain lodge 'Šloserov dom' located, and on the grassy peak of Snježnik, you will find the mountain lodge 'Albaharijev dom'. There is also an offer for those who opt for less demanding trails. There is an attractive
    network of walking trails.
  • The hydrological phenomenon and natural monument - the spring of the river Kupa - karst spring with the cleanest water and variable turquoise-green colour, also called the Lake of Kupa. It is 200 m long and 30 m wide. The spring is one of the many still mysteries of karst. It is also one of most powerful, most comprehensive and the deepest Croatian springs, located in the National Park Risnjak, about 20 km from Crni Lug. The source is accessible by half an hour's walk from the village of Razloge (14 km away from House Olga).
  • Mountain biking /cycling - marked cycle tracks allow you to experience the entire area of Gorski Kotar in several stages – planning your cycling holiday day after day. The seven biking trails range from 28-43 km with a total distance of 260 km, from the shortest routes of 4.2 km up to the longest of 40 km.
  • Sports fishing in rivers and lakes - along the rivers Kupa, Čabranka and Dobra; in the lakes Bajer and Lepenica in Fužine; lake Lokvarka in Lokve. For this type of fishing, you need a daily permit.
  • Adrenaline park in Kupjak (about 20 km from Crni Lug): zip line, paintball, suspension bridges, archery, football, zorbing, and activities for children.
  • The stunning natural attractions Vražji prolaz (The Devil's passage) and Zeleni vir (The Green vortex). The trails are 30 km or half-hour's drive away from Crni Lug. Located in the canyon below Skrad, at 302 m - 649 m above sea level, the area was proclaimed a geomorphological reserve in 1962. The Green vortex is a source at the bottom of a shallow cave whose entrance has been surrounded by vertical, high cliffs and a waterfall. The Devil's passage is an 800 meters long canyon, one of the most beautiful Croatian canyons full of wild and romantic beauty. Through a narrow gorge, barely two meters wide, among a hundred meters high rocks, murmurs the mountain stream Jasle. Above the creek, on supports cut into the rock, galleries and bridges have been made for excursionists. An amazing experience.
