Tourist Farm Mulej

Authentic farm stay near beautiful Lake Bled

A short walking distance from Lake Bled, in the calmest corner of the Bled region, the Tourist Farm Mulej, classified with 4 apples („apple“ is an official classification for tourist farms in Slovenia), offers comfortable rooms and apartments with a view of the surrounding countryside, fruit trees, veggie gardens, green hills of the Gorenjska region.

The breakfast is served in a dining room with an old tiled stove with beautiful relief motifs. There is also a large patio with tables and chairs overlooking the valley where you can enjoy a drink while watching the sun go down behind the hills.

The lovely hosts offer home-style cooking and regional cuisine prepared with fresh, organic and seasonal products grown on the farm.

The Tourist Farm Mulej is a typical Slovenian working farm with horses, cows, geese … An exhibition of old farming tools has been arranged in the barn. Children will enjoy fishing in the small pond, feeding the farm animals and playing outdoors.

For the whole family, we recommend exploring the beautiful region and the natural beauty of Lake Bled by bicycle.

A slightly different place for family holidays in Bled, away from the tourist area but still close enough to have access to everything that the beautiful Lake Bled has to offer.

Experience the authentic Slovenian farm holiday close to Lake Bled!

Bled itself is a reason enough for a visit

Destination Bled is among the most popular and well-attended tourist places in Slovenia. It is also famous as a rowing and boat race centre. The beginnings of Bled tourism date back to 1855, when the Swiss healer and naturopath Arnold Rikli, one of the founders of some forms of contemporary alternative medicine, revealed the beneficial effects of the mountain position of Bled, its healthy climate and a long swimming season on human health. He elaborated on a program of activities, from water treatment and baths to a healthy eating program. It was believed that his program reduced a range of health problems. The consequence was that already in 1895, the first beach and organized accommodations for the guests were built.

Did you know that in 1903, Bled was awarded a gold medal at an international fair of healing places in Vienna? Only three years later, in 1906, Bled was classified among the best tourist destinations in the Austro-Hungarian Empire!

The TOP 5 sights in Bled:

  1. Lake Bled, the 'Pearl at the foot of the Julian Alps' is an ideal destination for active holidays. Surrounded by an area of green hills and mountains in the distance, it provides ample opportunities for sport and recreation (swimming, rowing, trekking, cycling, water sports, etc.), and it offers a variety of events in Bled and its surroundings. The natural glacial lake is 2,120 m (6,960 ft) long and 1,380 m (4,530 ft) wide, with a maximum depth of 29.5 m (97 ft), and it has a small island.
  2. Bled Island, located in the middle of Lake Bled, with the charming little baroque Church of the Assumption and a Gothic lighthouse, is one of Bled's most visited attractions. To get there, visitors can rent a ‘pletna’ - a rowboat reminiscent of Venetian gondolas. The only Slovenian island still preserves the memory of a sad legend …
  3. Bled Castle (Blejski grad) - a fortress from the 11th century, located on a steep rock, 130 meters above Lake Bled. It is the oldest Slovenian castle. Apart from the castle itself, it is also worth visiting for the beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding area.
  4. The Monument to Arnold Rikli at the top of Straža hill. Listen to the story about the Swiss healer and naturopath who was the initiator of spa tourism in Bled in the 19th century and one of the pioneers of modern health tourism in Slovenia.
  5. The France Prešeren Monument in Bled – the famous statue dedicated to the Slovenian greatest poet. Did you know that he is the author of the lyrics of "Zdravljice", today's national anthem of the Republic of Slovenia? In his honour, Slovenians celebrate every year February 8 (the day of Prešern's death) as a state holiday and national "Day of Culture".

Symbols of Bled:

  • Bled cream cake - the delicious kremsnita. You really can't experience Bled without tasting the legendary Bled cream cake.
  • The Pletna boat – the traditional wooden flat-bottom boat with a pointed bow and a widened stern. The boat is propelled with the so-called »stehrudder« technique, where the oarsman stands and rows with two oars.
  • Coachmen Fijaker - open carriages with a long tradition in Bled. Not anyone can become a driver of such a carriage as the »profession« is handed down from generation to generation.

Lake Bled is also an excellent starting point for all kinds of biking tours. Find more information under Lake Bled - Family Cycling Destination

Bled - The pearl at the foot of the Julian Alps

Natural and cultural sights:

Bled is an ideal destination for active holidays. Surrounded by an area of green hills and mountains in the distance, it provides ample opportunities for sport and recreation (swimming, rowing, trekking, cycling, water sports, etc.), offering a variety of events in Bled and its surroundings.

Vintgar Gorge - one of the most popular natural features in Slovenia called also Bled Gorge (Blejski vintgar) is a 1.6-kilometre (0.99 mi) gorge in northwestern Slovenia in the municipalities of Gorje and Bled, 4 km northwest of Bled.

The Church of St. Martin in Bled - the neo-Gothic church constructed by some of the greatest names in Slovenian art and architecture.

Day trip to the top of Straža hill, where you will find the Monument to Arnold Rikli, the initiator of spa tourism in Bled in the 19th century. Rikli's Hike to Straža takes place and starts at his monument every first Sunday in July. Swiss healer and naturopath Arnold Rikli was one of the pioneers of modern health tourism in Slovenia. He established in Bled his own natural healing methods based on the effects of light, air and water on the human body, and the small village of Bled started to attract people who wanted to spend their holidays in a healthy and clean environment. The number of visitors started to rise in 1870 after a railway station was built.

The Pokljuka Gorge is a natural monument that spans nearly 2 kilometres in length. This ravine is a remnant of a stream which, at the end of the last Ice Age, was deeply carved into the limestone slopes above the Radovna, creating a ravine up to 50 meters deep. Over time, the water receded, and the stream moved underground, leaving behind the largest fossil gorge in Slovenia.

The Iglica Waterfall - in the abyss caves of Iglica, just above Bohinjska Bela, you will find a Slovenian hidden gem - an 18 m high waterfall on the Suha stream. The Iglica waterfall is only 5 km from Bled. The best time to visit the waterfall is spring, summer or early autumn. Recommended visit time: 1.5h - 2h. Difficulty of the trail: medium difficulty route, demanding section next to the Iglica Waterfall.

The Pokljuka Plateau - Located in the Triglav National Park, Pokljuka is a mountainous plateau with a length of 20 km and almost the same width, covered with woods. It has an altitude of 1.300m. Pokljuka is a very popular destination in all seasons. In winter, you can ski, sledging and cross-country skiing, while from spring to autumn, Pokljuka is a great destination for cycling, hiking and Nordic walking.
