Explore the great mountain scenery in Slovenian Alps on a mountain bike. Book this day-trip through Triglav National Park with its beautiful Lake Bohinj and Pokljuka plateau.
You will get first class service, from a hugely experienced guide and highly skilled MTB'r, the quality of the bikes and equipment provided, to the deep knowledge of Slovenia and Bohinj. The guided bike tour will be tailored to your skill level and we can cater for all levels of ability.
The mountains, alpine meadows and off-road trails in this area are stunning, making the Bohinj region into one huge mountain bike arena. On your bike you will sense a special experience, an intensive enjoyment of the nature, traditional cultural treasures and characteristic alpine settlements.
If you decide to experience this MTB adventure during summer time, you will encounter cows on the meadows and you can get some fresh dairy products.
Starting point for the mountain biking day-trip is in Bohinjska Bistrica, where you will meet your guide and get a bike and a helmet, if need it. There is a possibility to pick you up at your accommodation place. This option is on request.
The first spot of this great circular route around the Pokljuka plateau is the spacious alpine meadow Uskovnica (1.180m) where we will have a break in a typical mountain lodge for refreshments or a taste of Slovenian local food. We recommend to taste the world famous Bohinj cheese and the apple strudel (typical alpine dessert). There is a beautiful wooden chapel on the top of the meadow. The up hill climb to Uskovnica is at a moderate level along the dirt road.
Our next destination is Biathlon sports center in Rudno polje where the best cross country skiers and biathletes train and compete in the winter. There are around 5 km of cross-country skiing trails around the sports center and another 40 km in the nearby forests.
We continue our mountain bike to the beautiful Zajamniki alpine meadow. Cross the meadow and ascend to the wooden shack on a hill right opposite of the meadow. The view from there is superb! It will take your breath away when you see the amazing peaks of Julian Alps with Mountain Triglav and Lake Bohinj. A stop on “the balcony of Pokljuka”, as Zajamniki is also called, will be intended for photographing and refreshments.
We are returning to Bohinjska Bistrica around 15:00 PM. During this excursion you will also have the opportunity to see authentic and welcoming settlements with characteristic alpine architecture. For those who are more interested in experiencing Bohinj Valley, we can organize a tailor made special package. Contact us for more information.

Lake Bohinj - in the middle of the Triglav National Park. It is the best kept secret of Europe. Certainly "must see" in Slovenia. The largest natural lake in Slovenia, best known for its motive of a stone bridge and the Church of St. John the Baptist. The circular walk around Lake Bohinj is also recommended.
Pokljuka Plateau in the Triglav National Park. Plateau has been a popular tourist destination since before the Second World War. It is a well-known starting-point for an ascent of Triglav and many more easily accessible peaks (Viševnik, 2,050 metres, Mali Draški Vrh, Debela Peč with a mountain hut offering accommodation and good food, Lipanski Vrh). On the way to Pokljuka, just outside the village of Gorje, there is a spectacular gorge, perhaps the quietest and most peaceful place in the entire area. Except sports activities on Pokljuka Plateau you can also pick forest fruits (mushrooms, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries…) and herbs.
Biathlon Sports Center in Rudno polje, at the end of the main road to Pokljuka is the place where the best cross country skiers and biathletes train and compete in the winter. There are around 5 km of cross-country skiing trails around the hotel and another 40 km in the nearby forests. Even if you are not a guest of the hotel, it is worth coming for a drink or to lounge on the outside terrace and watch the biathletes training for the next World Cup event.
Mountain Uskovnica and its beautiful alpine meadow at 1.180m above sea level with many traditional shepherds' huts that are nowadays transformed into idyllic holiday houses. There is a mountain hut at Uskovnica which provides great local food for the hungry and thirsty nature lovers.
Zajamniki Alpine meadow is located at 1.290 m above sea level and is famous as the most beautiful alpine meadow of Pokljuka with its original placement of huts in a sunny location. Zajamniki is also called “the balcony of Pokljuka”, because of its amazing views of Julian Alps, Mountain Triglav and Lake Bohinj.
