Uskovnica alpine meadow – Break point

11.45 AM - Uskovnica alpine meadow – Break point

The first spot of this scenic circular route around the Pokljuka Plateau is the spacious alpine meadow Uskovnica (1.180m), where we will have a break in a typical mountain lodge for refreshments or a taste of Slovenian local food. We recommend tasting the world-famous Bohinj cheese and the apple strudel (a typical alpine dessert). There is a beautiful wooden chapel on the top of the meadow. The ascent to Uskovnica is a moderate-level hill along a dirt road.

Rudno Polje Biathlon Sports Centre

1:00 PM - Rudno Polje Biathlon Sports Centre

Our next destination is the Biathlon Sports Centre in Rudno Polje, where the best cross-country skiers and biathletes train and compete in the winter. There are around 5 km of cross-country skiing trails around the sports centre and another 40 km in the nearby forests

Zajamniki alpine meadow with stunning views

2:00 PM - Zajamniki alpine meadow with stunning views

We continue our mountain bike to the beautiful Zajamniki alpine meadow. Cross the meadow and ascend to the wooden shack on a hill opposite the meadow. The view from there is superb! It will take your breath away when you see the impressive peaks of the Julian Alps with Mountain Triglav and Lake Bohinj. A stop on “the balcony of Pokljuka”, as Zajamniki is also called, will be intended for photographing and refreshments.

  • Biathlon sports center in Rudno Polje
  • Mountain Zajamniki with amazing views of Mt Triglav and Bohinj Lake

Lake Bohinj - in the middle of the Triglav National Park. It is the best-kept secret in Europe. Certainly "must see" in Slovenia. The largest natural lake in Slovenia, best known for its stone bridge and the Church of St. John the Baptist. The circular walk around Lake Bohinj is also recommended.

Pokljuka Plateau in the Triglav National Park. Plateau has been a popular tourist destination since before the Second World War. It is a well-known starting point for an ascent of Triglav and many more easily accessible peaks (Viševnik, 2,050 metres, Mali Draški Vrh, Debela Peč with a mountain hut offering accommodation and good food, Lipanski Vrh). On the way to Pokljuka, just outside the village of Gorje, there is a spectacular gorge, perhaps the quietest and most peaceful place in the entire area. Except for sports activities on the Pokljuka Plateau, you can also pick forest fruits (mushrooms, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries…) and herbs.

Biathlon Sports Centre, located in Rudno Polje, is the perfect destination for cross-country skiers and biathletes. Situated at the end of the main road to Pokljuka, the centre offers around 5 km of cross-country skiing trails around the hotel and another 40 km of trails in the nearby forests. Even if you are not a hotel guest, it is worth coming to the centre to enjoy a drink or lounge on the outside terrace while watching the biathletes train for their upcoming World Cup even.

Uskovnica mountain pasture is a picturesque alpine meadow located 1,180 meters above sea level and dotted with traditional shepherd's huts that have been converted into charming holiday homes. Visitors can enjoy delicious local cuisine at a mountain hut on Uskovnica, making it the perfect spot for nature lovers to recharge and refuel.

Zajamniki Alpine meadow is located 1.290 m above sea level and is famous as the most beautiful alpine meadow of Pokljuka with its original placement of huts in a sunny location. Zajamniki is also called 'the balcony of Pokljuka' because of its amazing views of the Julian Alps, Mountain Triglav and Lake Bohinj.
