ITINERARY

Arrival in Korana Village

Day 1 - Arrival in Korana Village

We are leaving Zagreb or Zadar airport making our way to the small riverside village of Korana, located on the Korana River, near the famous Plitvice Lakes. The peaceful ethno village is an ideal base for our 8-day exploring tour through the surrounding area. After settling into your rooms, we will meet for dinner and a brief orientation, where we will discuss the tour itinerary and get to know all participants. Drive: 2 hours one way. Accommodation: private guesthouse. Meals: dinner.

Walking Day in NP Plitvice Lakes

Day 2 - Walking Day in NP Plitvice Lakes

After breakfast, we are going to visit the most beautiful Croatian national park – Plitvice Lakes. The UNESCO World Heritage Site with its 16 emerald green travertine lakes, more than 90 waterfalls and many caves is a truly masterpiece of nature. In this extraordinary environment, we will have a lunch break. A panoramic boat and train ride will take us back over the lake to the park's exit. Later in the afternoon, we return to Korana Village where you can spend the rest of the day swimming in the clear river in front of your house. Hiking: 6-9 kilometres. Terrain: easy, well-marked paths. Accommodation: private guesthouse. Meals: breakfast and dinner (picnic lunch on your own). Drive: 5 minutes each way.

Cycling in Plitvice Lakes area

Day 3 - Cycling in Plitvice Lakes area

On our third day, we will explore the rolling countryside of the Plitvice area by bike. The trail will lead us through forests, over hills and green fields to the Barac Caves, where we'll stop for a guided underground tour through Upper Barac’s caves with a length of 520 metres. After visiting the caves we will make a break for a picnic lunch or just to sit and enjoy the tranquil setting. In the afternoon we will bike back to Korana Village for dinner and overnight. Cycling: 4 hours, easy/moderate. Terrain: rolling hills. Accommodation: private guesthouse. Meals: breakfast (picnic lunch and dinner on your own). Please note that cycling the entire route may be too difficult for small children, but the support van can pick them up and take them back to the village if they are tired.

Kayaking on Zrmanja River

Day 4 - Kayaking on Zrmanja River

Today awaits us a true adventure - kayaking in a 200-meter-deep canyon of the Zrmanja River, the hidden beauty in the hinterland of Dalmatia. This exciting expedition on crystal clear and green waters, over rapids and waterfalls, hidden pools and steep cliffs will make this excursion an unforgettable experience. No previous kayaking experience is needed if you can swim. We use open canoes or sit-on-top kayaks for 2 persons with an optional child seat. Rafting boats are used during high water season (usually before May and after September, but the water level can vary in spring and autumn). After kayaking on the Zrmanja River, we will drive back to our accommodation in Korana Village. Drive: 2h each way. Kayaking: 4 hours, class II-III, easy/moderate. Accommodation: private guesthouse. Meals: breakfast (picnic lunch and dinner on your own).

Free day

Day 5 - Free day

For all participants who chose a 5-day tour, this is the end of the holiday. After breakfast, you are welcome to schedule your homeward transport at any time. The rest of the group continues their adventure. The motto for the fifth tour day is "free and easy", offering the participants a chance to have a choice of being active or just relax by or in the river in front of their accommodation. Some of the options are a cycling tour on your own in and around National Park Plitvice Lakes, walking, and excursions to towns of interest in surrounding areas, including beach trips and sightseeing. Drive: max. 2 hours one way. Accommodation: private guesthouse. Meals: breakfast (lunch and dinner on your own).

Una River Rafting

Day 6 - Una River Rafting

Today we will cross the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our rafting day trip on the Bosnian most beautiful river will be a great experience. The Una River forms a natural border between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. It is part of the Una National Park, located in north-western Bosnia, across from the NP Plitvice Lakes on the Croatian side. The Una is rich in water even in summer so rafting is possible all year round. There are several sections to choose from, and our guides will select the one that is best adapted to group abilities and current water levels. Drive: 1 hour one way; Rafting: class I-IV, 2-3 hours, easy/moderate. Accommodation: private guesthouse. Meals: bBreakfast (picnic lunch and dinner on your own).

Kayaking in Mreznica River Canyon

Day 7 - Kayaking in Mreznica River Canyon

Another river adventure - kayaking in the canyon of the Mrežnica River. We will start our tour through the Upper Mreznica Canyon from the place which is approx. 45 minutes away from the hotel. This part of the river is the most beautiful for kayaking tours. Our route takes us through a narrow and deep gorge, paddling past high cliffs, lush vegetation and cascading waterfalls to the freshwater spring. We continue our expedition to the second-highest waterfall on the Mreznica (8m), which is an ideal place for swimming and a lunch break. After a break, we continue to the end point of the kayaking trip. After all the activity we will have some free time to visit Rastoke Village on the Slunjcica River. This picturesque 300-year-old watermills village (30 km from UNESCO site Plitvice Lakes) has the nickname „Little Plitvice“. We return to the Korana village for dinner. Drive: 45 min each way. Kayaking: class II-III, easy/moderate, 2 - 3 hours; in case of high water levels, we use rafting boats instead of kayaks (2 hours of rafting). Accommodation: private guesthouse. • Natural beauties of Plitvice Lakes

  • Zrmanja River – hidden beauty in inland of Dalmatia
  • Rafting on the Una River (Una National Park) – the most beautiful river in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  1. Ethno Village Korana is a small riverside village located along the Korana River, near the entrance to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The peaceful village is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area. The houses in the village are built in a rustic style that represents true historical heritage. Also, there are mills from the 19th century and a sawmill powered by water. In hot summers you can swim in the crystal clear river in front of your accommodation. Also close are some interesting sights like the Barac-Caves (15 km), Old Town Dreznik Grad (10 km), and Rastoke Village (called „Little Plitvice“, 27 km).
  2. Plitvice Lakes National Park - a misty natural wonderland. Plitvice is one of the oldest national parks in Southeast Europe and the largest in Croatia. The national park was founded in 1949. In 1979 Plitvice Lakes National Park was listed on UNESCO's list of world natural heritage sites because of its exquisite series of 16 emerald green and opal blue travertine lakes, more than 90 waterfalls and numerous caves. The lakes are surrounded by beech and pine forests and are home to extensive wildlife. It is one of the most beautiful natural sights in Europe.
  3. Mrežnica River in the Croatian heartland is popular among nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts because of its large number of waterfalls, totalling 93. This crystal clear river with rich flora and fauna, is ideal for swimming, kayaking through beautiful canyons, natural jacuzzi in waterfalls and walking over to small river islands. It offers also plenty of stops for 'jumping' and taking photos.
  4. Zrmanja River is the hidden beauty in the hinterland of Dalmatia. It is one of Croatia's most beautiful rivers: wild and unpolluted. Its 200 m deep canyon with many rapids and a 12 metres high waterfall named "Veliki buk" provides an exciting river-rafting adventure. The river springs below the mountain Poštak in the southern part of the Lika region, in the hinterland of Zadar, and flows into the Novigrad Sea, 11 km from the town of Obrovac. Zrmanja is, thanks to the sea, suitable for rafting all year round (when the water level is high enough).
  5. Una National Park is one of the three national parks in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The park is located in the north-western part of Bosnia along the Bosnian-Croatian border, south of the city Bihać. It was established in 2008 around the Upper Una River and the Unac River. Only 40 km from NP Una is the famous Croatian NP Plitvice Lakes. The waterfalls and white water rapids of the River  are the highlights of the park. The most famous waterfalls are the great Strabacki Buk with its 8 metres and a tiny one at Martin Brod, where the popular "International Una Regatta" kayaking competition begins. Throughout the park, visitors can enjoy prime conditions for rafting, fishing, cycling and hiking. Area of the park has rich cultural-historic heritage and numerous archaeological sites, many dating from the prehistoric period. The significant historical and cultural heritage of the area within the park's zone is the Roman fort Milančeva Kula, Rmanj Monastery in Martin Brod, medieval fortress Ostrovica above Kulen Vakuf and Ottoman fortress Havala.
