Zrmanja River Rafting & Kayaking Trip

Experience the Thrill of Rafting and Kayaking in North Dalmatia

Rafting for Adventurers or Kayak Safari

RAFTING/KAYAKING | Half Day | 55€ | Hidden in the remote Velebit area in the Zadar hinterland, the beautiful Zrmanja River offers a trip full of adrenaline, adorned with crystalline water and a spectacular canyon with magnificent waterfalls. You will have the opportunity to see diverse flora and fauna and explore the typical karst phenomenon made of travertine waterfalls, for which this region is famous.

Zrmanja rafting trip begins in the village of Kaštel Zegarski, situated 1 h drive from Zadar, 1h 20 minutes drive from Šibenik, 2 h drive from Split, and 1 h 45 minutes from the Plitvice Lakes Area.

Rafting/Kayaking route: the Zrmanja Canyon – upper course of the river between Kaštel Žegarski and Muškovci. It takes approx. 3 hours (plus time for swimming and picnic). On the tour, you will row for 12 km to cross many barriers and rapids, including the 10-meter-high waterfall and jumping from several waterfalls of one to five meters high.

In its 69 kilometres, in some parts, it meanders through fields, and in others, it is squeezed into a narrow canyon. When the water level is high, it roars with foaming rapids, and during the summer months, it disappears completely underground, only to reappear on the surface downstream.

Our licensed and experienced rafting guides and kayak skippers have an excellent knowledge of techniques and tactics for riding wild waters. They are ready to guide complete beginners as well as those more experienced. This trip doesn't require previous kayaking experience.

Also suitable for children from 6 years of age, accompanied by parents, who can swim well and love water activities.

The Zrmanja River is suitable for rafting until May 15th and after September 15th, or during heavy rains. In the period from May 15th to September 15th, kayaks are mainly used.

  • Please note that in the summer months, rafting on the Zrmanja River may not be available due to lower water levels, but you can enjoy a kayaking trip. The route is the same, just instead of rafts (large rubber boats with a capacity of up to 8 people), we will use kayaks (smaller, two-seater rubber boats).

In addition to the Zrmanja River, we would also like to recommend our exciting Mrežnica River in the Gorski Kotar region in Inland Croatia (120 km south of the capital Zagreb): Mreznica River Rafting Trip or Mreznica River Kayaking Trip

Instead of rafting, we can organise a kayaking trip.

Zrmanja Rafting Route

10:00 AM - Zrmanja Rafting Route

The Zrmanja rafting route consists of two parts. The first part is suitable for beginners. In this part, we will learn how to paddle. After the first hour of paddling through easy rapids, we will visit the beautiful waterfalls of the Krupa River and swim under them. The small mountain Krupa River boasts 19 waterfalls. Many say that the Krupa waterfalls are among the most beautiful in Croatia. Halfway through, we reach an 10 m high Veliki Buk Waterfall, where we get out of the boats and walk around the waterfall, and we lower our kayaks/rafts down the waterfall, where the second part of the route begins. The second half of the tour brings faster water and larger rapids, including the biggest rapid on the entire river and a 3 m waterfall as a grand finale!

End of the Zrmanja Rafting Trip

1:30 PM - End of the Zrmanja Rafting Trip

Finally, we arrive in the village of Muškovci, where our adventure on the Zrmanja River ends. The location is famous for Berber's Buk, a magnificent 3-meter-high and 200-meter-long waterfall. Muškovci is known for its rich gastronomic offerings, featuring numerous cafés and restaurants. In Muškovci, you can use our changing rooms. There is a local bar nearby where you can enjoy refreshments. After changing, we will transport the drivers from your group back to the starting location to retrieve their cars. There is a possibility of having a picnic lunch or going to the restaurant (both on your own). This half-day rafting/kayaking trip on the Zrmanja River promises to be an incredible experience you will want to repeat!

  • Rafting/Kayaking down the rapids and waterfalls of the amazing Zrmanja River Canyon.
  • Exciting 10-meter-high Veliki Buk waterfall.
  • Clear emerald water and magical landscapes.
  • Swimming under waterfalls, jumping off high cliffs and waterfalls, and walking over small river islands.
    1. Rafting/Kayaking route - the 12 km-long upper course of the Zrmanja Canyon between Kaštel Žegarski and Muškovci. It takes approximately three hours (plus time for swimming and a picnic). The tour consists of two parts. The first part of the route is 7 km long and is suitable for beginners. In this part, you will learn how to paddle. The second part of the tour is faster and more intense, and here you will have an opportunity to jump from several waterfalls of 1m, 2m, 3m and 5m.
    2. Beautiful turquoise and blue hues contrast with wild greenery and untouched karst, making the landscape around the Zrmanja River unique. The Zrmanja canyon is protected as a geomorphological monument of nature and is characterised by 200-300-meter high cliffs that rise above the river. This crystal clear river in the inland of Dalmatia, with rich flora and fauna, is ideal for swimming, kayaking or rafting through its great canyon with vertical cliffs, natural whirlpools, waterfalls, and short walkings over to small river islands. It also offers several stops for jumping from several-meter-high waterfalls.
    1. The most exciting in the Zrmanja Canyon is the 10-meter-high Veliki Buk waterfall. It simply takes your breath away. This is the highest waterfall on the Zrmanja River andthe only waterfall that cannot be crossed with a boat, but it requires a short walk around it.
    2. The Krupa River & Krupa-Zrmanja Confluence: The beautiful Croatian Krupa River is only seven kilometres long but adorned with 19 waterfalls, which many claim are some of the most beautiful in Croatia. Perhaps the most famous among them is the Deveterac waterfall, which gets its name from its nine travertine barriers that end in a 13-meter-high waterfall. The 12-meter-high Babin waterfall also stands out, while many praise the eight-meter-high Dragičevića buk as one of the most beautiful. The Krupa River is the largest tributary of the Zrmanja River, but it is not a part of the Zrmanja rafting tour, except for the Krupa-Zrmanja Confluence.
