Mrežnica River and 93 Stunning Waterfalls

The Mrežnica River in Inland Croatia is a magnet for nature lovers and thrill-seekers, thanks to its dazzling cascade of 93 waterfalls!. This crystal-clear river in Central Croatia winds through a lush landscape rich in flora and fauna, inviting you to swim, kayak, or raft through a dramatic canyon filled with cliffs, swirling whirlpools, and hidden river islands. Adventurers can even leap from high cliffs into the refreshing river.

The heart of the Mrežnica River adventure lies in its canyon, where sheer cliffs frame the awe-inspiring 8-meter-high Milkovic waterfall. As the river plunges in a spectacular display, it leaves visitors breathless. This is the second-highest waterfall on the Mreznica and the only one that challenges rafters to step out and walk around, adding a dash of excitement to the journey.

There are two rafting sections on the river:

1. The UPPER section of the Mrežnica River consists of several waterfalls with heights of up to 8 m. The rafting trip also includes elements of canyoning (natural waterslides, showering under waterfalls, jumping from high cliffs, and walking through the canyon). The waterfalls can be crossed via a natural waterslide, by jumping from the cliff, or by walking around the cascade while the skipper throws the rafts down. This trip provides many opportunities to enjoy the canyon.
  • Difficulty levels II and III.
  • Duration: 3 hours.
  • Min. persons per boat: 4

PRICE: 50 € per person

2. The LOWER section of the Mrežnica River is relatively easy, and a perfect choice for the first white water rafting experience and families with children.

  • Difficulty levels I and II.
  • Duration: 2 hours.
  • Min. persons per boat: 4

PRICE: 45 € per person

The prices include VAT, equipment, skipper and insurance.

If the group has fewer than 4 persons and the client wishes to proceed with the trip, the price will increase by 20% per person.

LICENSED RAFTING GUIDESare experienced skippers who have an excellent knowledge of techniques and tactics for riding wild waters.

They are trained to guide both complete beginners and more experienced participants. These trips don't require previous rafting/kayaking experience.

EQUIPMENT: helmet, life jacket, paddle, one waterproof container per boat for personal items, plus long neoprene suit & rain jacket in case of cold weather.

The best time for rafting on the Mrežnica is during spring and fall, when the river reaches its highest water levels. In summer, the river is ideal for kayaking/canoeing.

Depending on weather conditions and water levels, excursions are conducted using the most suitable type of boat:

  • kayaks with a capacity of 2 people (and one child)
  • rafts with a capacity of 6–8 people.

Mreznica Rafting/Kayaking - Key Facts

The Mrežnica River is known as one of the "Four rivers of Karlovac City". Although it is much shorter than the other Karlovac rivers—Dobra, Korana, and Kupa—the Mrežnica earns a special place among them thanks to its 93 waterfalls! In 2024, Croatia designated new protected areas along the Mrežnica River. The LOWER COURSE of the river was declared the Significant Landscape "Mrežnica". The UPPER COURSE of the Mrežnica River was declared The Natural Monument "Mrežnica-Tounjčica". In accordance with this decision, the conditions for rafting/kayaking on the Mrežnica River are changing. Organizers of kayaking and rafting trips in these parts must adhere to specific requirements, including nature‑protection measures, the use of designated kayaks and rafts, organizing trips in smaller groups (up to 20 people), ensuring that guests leave no waste behind, and other rules aimed at preserving the protected area.
