In the idyllic setting of Pod Skalco in Ribčevem Laz, just a stone’s throw from Lake Bohinj, you will witness an authentic Bohinj wedding. The event brings the three-act play of the wedding ceremony to life with Bohinj dialect, singing and dancing:
- Going for the Bride and the Dowry – the arrival of the groom at the bride’s house, where the search for the right bride and the arranging of the wedding takes place.
- The shranga (Šranga) – a humorous challenge for the groom, a symbolic ordeal of the groom, who must prove his worth and earn his bride.), and “At the Groom’s Home,” where the celebration unfolds
- At the Groom’s Home – the celebration that accompanies the bride’s arrival in her new home, and the celebration unfolds.

The Rural Wedding in Bohinj (Kmečka ohcet) is a beloved annual folklore event that brings Slovenia’s alpine traditions to life in spectacular fashion. Held each July near Lake Bohinj, it’s not a real wedding but a theatrical reenactment of how weddings were celebrated in Bohinj centuries ago.
