Colourfully decorated cattle, the sound of cowbells and a great festival atmosphere – that is what you can expect at the Cows' Ball on the beautiful Lake Bohinj in Slovenia.
The Alpine cattle drive takes place every September in Bohinj. After spending the summer on the green mountain pastures of Bohinj Valley, the colourfully decorated cattle are driven down to the valley, back to their stables, where they will stay until next summer.
Shepherds and farmers taking part in the event bring decorated herds of cattle from the higher mountains and carry basenga on their shoulders - everything they need to make cheese and other things necessary for life in the mountains.
The Caws' Ball takes place in Ukanc, the idyllic village on the shore of Lake Bohinj in the Slovenian Triglav National Park, providing a rich program with traditional alpine sports, music, dancing, old customs, folklore and brass band, as well as homemade local food and drinks.
The arrival of the farmers in Bohinj will be expected at 1:00 p.m.
The Cows’ Ball is a great Bohinj holiday that you should not miss. Experience this much-loved Slovenian tradition for yourself!
With a ticket to the Cows’ Ball, you can also visit the Savica waterfall for free on 21 September 2025!

The Cows' Ball is the oldest event in Bohinj, Slovenia. Until the 1950s, it was mainly a holiday for the locals. Farmers, caterers, and other members of the community rejoiced at the end of the tourist and grazing season. For more than 60 years now, the Bohinj Tourist Association has been organizing this event.
